About Sentimental
Sundays
Known to her listeners as, "Tory”, Sentimental Sundays can be heard
from 2pm until 6pm each Sunday afternoon central time. Sentimental
Sundays w/ Tory on WFSK, where listener ship has captured the
attention of Music City, has been on the air since 2003. She has a
fiercely dedicated group of listeners, Tory refers to as Sentimental
Sunday riders. Tory hopes to one day have a syndicated Radio Program
to air nationwide. “If but for a moment, everyone should afford
themselves a sentimental moment before the sun sets each day.
Sentiment is revealing of oneself, a way to find your way back to
you, by sharing how something, namely, music in lyric and
instrumentation moves you.”
Born Tory Williams, Tory discovered her love for music through
listening to the music that resounded throughout her home as a child
in Rhode Island. “Mother played so many styles of music. She played
Diane Reeves, The Supremes, Marion Anderson, and Nancy Wilson, along
with Earth Wind and Fire, The Average White Band and the Ohio
Players. I fell enamored by Nancy Wilson, Billie Holiday and
anything Stevie!” “Music has always been an intricate part of my
life. In performance and now in radio.” She has enjoyed performing
for crowds and recalls her first performance at the age of 7, where
she was required to introduce herself and the piece she was
performing. The audience cheered and clapped even before she got
started. From that moment Tory new she wanted to be in performance.
So for the community functions and abroad, Tory found herself not
only performing, but serving as Mistress of Ceremony to the many
shows she was talent.
Throughout high school and while in college, Tory combined her
love for people, music and public speaking by hosting talent shows,
Emceed for community pageants and DJ’d for dance clubs. She reported
campus news for Rhode Island College where she majored in Music and
Mass Communications. Soon after, moved over to WBRU (Brown
University) where she Co-Hosted her first radio show, In The Spirit.
Tory stayed on with WBRU and hosted her first radio show on
360(degrees), Black Experience and Sound as “Tory”. Many have asked,
‘so what is your radio name, and I say, as matter-of-factly, “Tory”
‘ My listeners want to give me names like Cinnamon, Silk, Velvet and
Sweet -T….I smile and say, “Tory, but call me what you want, just
call me….”
Tory is a devoted mother to her 3 children Byron Keith,
Brittany Nell and Britton Keith, and is active on their school’s PTA
makes every baseball game, Concert for Band and Marching Band
performance. She is a supportive wife to her husband and has long
heart strings for her family & friends. Tory makes personal
references to her life as mother, wife and ‘A Child of God9, in an
effort to connect her loyal listeners20to the music and lyric she
airs, thus creating Sentimental Sunday. A combination of emotional
forethought and lyrical measure of the songs she plays; the
composition of the instruments; the blend inside Sentimental Sundays
w/ Tory, includes a segment where we “Swing w/ the Sisters” and the
“Let’s Do It Again’ hour.
Listeners love Swinging’ w/ The Sisters, “a medley of
sisters to swing jazz, smooth jazz, and a touch of R&B classics,
exclusive to the ladies. The selection just before the sisters come
on adds chivalric appeal, as is a male artist ’opens the door for
the ladies‘. The hour is lead with Gerald Veasley’s rendition of
Let’s Do it Again w/ John Legend and The Staple Singers and multiple
blends of Smooth jazz covers mixed with classic tunes.
Inside Sentimental Sunday, in addition to the weather
forecast, she gives her listeners the estimate-time of the sunset.
Giving her listeners reason to ‘be still and share a moment with
themselves, a loved one, with God‘. At the end of each show, Tory
reminds her listeners “I’ll be here next Sentimental Sunday, if it’s
in His will…listen…count your blessings one-by-one; be mindful of
the needs of others, as they’ll be mindful of yours. Be a blessing
for someone… and be good”. then Diane Reeves carries the show to
it’s end with That s All, with a resounding lyric, “I can only give
you love that lasts forever. …a promise to be near each time you
call,… the only heart I own, for you and you alone baby that’s
all…that’s all!
